Flogging A Dead Horse

All right this is absolutely, definitely, the last final ending post to end it all. Honestly. I’m not just saying that. This is something I found, made a note of and then promptly forgot about until just now. Should have got it out last month before the final whistle and I think the parties concerned with staging/promoting and selling the tournament wanted you to spend your hard earned on it, but will now be consigned to the bargain bin. As with the game which in the adverts they tried to sell to us with the tagline: “Change the outcome…” (I…

We Dig Football…But Not Violence

You know apart from one report I haven’t seen or heard of any other bits of trouble at the tournament. Good stuff. Great news that. Long may it continue. – There’s a German band called “Under Pressure” who did this video in which they sing about digging football and not hooliganism. The lyrics to the song and the video is very clichéd, but more power to them for doing this. Football is about football and not about fighting. A translation of the text accompanying the YouTube clip: “Music clip of the band UNDER PRESSURE for Euro 2008 A contribution against…

Let’s Have A Good Time…

This is something I wish I found at the beginning of the tournament, but oh well. Fatman Scoop is an American artist who like Sydney Youngblood and Terrance Trent D’arby is more well known in Europe than his homeland. In fact he’s big in Switzerland… I’m not saying that because he is a big bloke but because his stuff has charted there. Scoop’s style is a shouty, he has a loud rough but memorable voice. He has featured on a number of artist singles including Timberlake. He had a top 10 single in the UK back in 2004 and currently…

“What’s That Song…?”

The FootieAndMusic Podcast

Michael emailed me to ask what is that techno music that they play when they score. In the goals we did see inbetween the blackouts… was originally used in France ’98. It was a newer version of an already released track by Bellini. The original was called Samba De Janeiro and the France ’98 version is: » Bellini – Samba E Gol Also… I was sure that I heard the fans repeatedly doing the hook line from a very familiar tune. And that song is… » The White Stripes – 7 Nation Army July 2nd Update: More stuff about the…

España Podemos !

Espania !

Hello and thank you to Jorge Martinez who is in Columbia for mailing me. The other day I put a shout out for anyone to email me if they spotted anything related to Spain and Euro 2008. He suggested this video: España PODEMOS! (Podemos means “power”). From that I discovered that a Spanish television channel is using this music as the theme to their coverage of the tournament. (Have I mentioned that I adopted the Spanish team and they are the ones I’m following throughout Euro 2008…? Yeah I probably have too many times already. What I also said is…

Oliver Pocher says Bringt ihn Heim

Oliver Pocher is a German actor, comedian and entertainer did a song that would give Skinner & Baddiel’s “Three Lions” a run for it’s money. Like the Skinn/Badd/Lightning Seeds single it has a very catchy chorus which can be chanted on the terraces (or uncomfortable plastic seating as it is now). There are similarities with 3 Lions but why change a winning formula. I’ve played this song a few times now and I have to say I love it. Wish there was an English version of it. In the video he imitates some familiar German footballing faces, such as der…

“This Wasn’t What I Predicted…”

Turkey and Russia in the Semi’s…? I betcha that before the tournament began when you downloaded and filled in your wallcharts, speculating on who you thought would be playing where and when, that you didn’t have either of these two going this far. I bet you had Germany winning their group, with Croatia as runners up. Portugal and the Czech’s in theirs, Italy and maybe France or Holland and Spain with Sweden in theres. Well I did anyways. We were expecting the Germans and the Portuguese to meet up later than they did. We were expecting Italy and France to…
