Yes sir they did.
Markie emailed exclaiming this after seeing tracks from the 1994 World Cup soundtrack which included a song from a certain Manchester band which was a bit unexpected.
The song itself has some of the ingredients for that perfect footie song (the noise of the crowd) and a chant-like single word chorus akin to the Olé ones posted the other day.

Some interesting… lyrics in the song too. The first verse is:
“I’m in love with the football club
At the age of 7 my father took me
He got me hooked into this game
I’m a member of an ape like race in the final days of the 20th century
When we don’t win I go insane…”
» The rest of the lyrics:
» James – Goal Goal GoalI’m in love with a football club
At the age of 7 my father took me
He got me hooked into this game
I’m a member of an ape like race in the final days of the 20th century
When we don’t win I go insane…Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, GoalWanna see you take that ball
and make it break the laws of gravity
Sell me a dummy on the way…
Curved ball around the wall
Make the play with a touch of clarity
I get much pleasure from this gameGoal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, GoalWho were so powerful
watch these giants collide
so individual
he was never ever ever offside…Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal
Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal, Goal

P.S. That wasn’t the only football song they did. There’s also this:
The chorus was, at one time, played whenever Airdrie Utd scored in a home match (as I suddenly found out when they took a controversial lead one match against my beloved Raith Rovers).
Since then, its been just about my least favorite James track…..
