Let’s Look At The Local Talent…

Rock Me Amadeus

The other day I talked about UEFA getting Johnny Foreigner in to do the official theme song…or songs as it turned out for the tournament.

But luckily the Swiss and Austrian footballing authorities recognised that they still needed to cash in themselves promote the finals to their citizens so they brought in some local acts.

The Austrians went with Christine Strümer, who was discovered on an Austrian TV talent show. Christine was a runner up in this show but like Clay Aiken on American Idol she became more successful than the winner.

Next up we have the Swiss representative who is a singer, songwriter…dancer… that’s right a Jack McFarland triple threat.

His name may ring a bell actually.

DJ Bobo was a spectacular failure in the 2007 Eurovision Song Contest. He never made it past the semi-final stage with his song “Vampires Are Alive”. He finished 20th out of 28 semi-finalists.

The Swiss footballing authorities must have had a short term memory loss, or there really isn’t any other Swiss acts out there who would do this.

Seeing is own financial opportunity here, DJ Bobo had a poll on his official website asking the visitors to vote on two song and choose which one would be used for Euro 2008. Once the songs were voted on he released these plus other tracks and remixes on an album.

» DJ Bobo – Olé Olé

…and the other one:

» DJ Bobo – Let The Games Begin
