So what is alternative ? Remember the Record Mirror and their Indie charts ? That sort of thing.
Gathered here are some England songs from acts who back in the day were seen as “alternative” artists. Who were seen not as the mainstream.
Basically what this meant was that these bands were not signed to a major record label.
The reason for this post is that I have a few England-related songs done by acts who could be found on these indie labels, as you will see most of them are now (or were) very familiar names. And as you will also see I’ve paired up the football and musical song with another track from that artists back catalogue.
» Beginning with The Farm, a band who were on their own label, Produce Records.
This track is a re-recording of one of their biggest hits, released in time for Euro 2004:
The Farm – All Together Now (For England)
» Next up is the musician Gideon Conn who in 2010 teamed up with the Inspiral Carpets keyboardist Clint Boon and released this England song:
Gideon Conn & Clint Boon – Get Your Hopes Up (Win Win Win)
» And now we have Black Grape who… well you don’t need me to tell you about them. Here’s their Euro’96 England song featuring Keith Allan and Joe Strummer:
Black Grape – England’s Irie (Mel’s L.A. Irie Mix)
» Another band I don’t need to tell you about. Or their most famous bit of football and music:
New Order – World in Motion (Andrew Weatherall & Terry Farley No Alla Violenza Mix)
» And lastly my favourite. Dreadzone, who released this in time for the 2006 World Cup:
A very decent bunch of England songs.
Have I missed any others though ?
