Lately I’ve been in a funk F&M wise… Oh you’ve noticed… I just wasn’t feeling it, especially this week.

As I traipsed back into the dressing room, there was A North Country Bhoy who gave a rousing half time team talk and I was so inspired that I now run back out on the pitch with a renewed passion !

ANCB didn’t actually say anything directly or specifically to me. It was because of one of his posts about a musical act and seeing their name reminded me of something I have in the vaults…

The artists in question are known for their breakbeats, techno, drum and bass & any other style that they care to throw in. They are Fila Brazillia.

But it’s not just them, there’s another act involved in this story too. Their area was progressive house and acid jazz, they were on the Boys Own label in the mid-90′s… They are the Ballistic Brothers.

…and it doesn’t end there… I’m beginning to sound like Jools Holland now... one more group to throw in this mix – they are from South America and they add the samba sound to this beat. The one and only Arakatuba.

Ok enough with the long introduction, let’s get on with the music…

Have you ever thought to yourself – “I wonder if somebody has done an album about an entire team…”   Well you mightn’t of, but I have.

That musing was answered yesterday after I was perusing A North Country Bhoy’s.. *ahem…slightly unfortunate use with the sentence there… blog and was looking at the entry into.. alright stop that now… about Fila Brazillia. The exotically sounding dance act from err… Hull.

They are noted mixers most famously having done a Radiohead track [Climbing Up The Walls] – plus not as well known, but they also remixed a Collapsed Lung (which as you know the F&M connect with Eat My Goal), song as well…

…Not to mention producing their own material too.

It wasn’t that one which got me stirred up though, it was because of something from all three acts mentioned above – Arakatuba & Ballistic Brothers & Fila Brazillia. I spotted a collaboration between all of them and because this site is football and music you know where this is going…

The main featured act of this football and musical trio though is Arakabuba who it is difficult finding much information about. As far as I can tell they are a latin beats, samba band from Brazil who are signed and record for a UK label – Mr Bongo:

“From humble beginnings in the London basement of Daddy Kool’s reggae shop on Berwick Street, Mr Bongo is now seen as the standard bearer for Latin music outside the Americas. With regular imports from Latin America, Cuba and the USA to our store, we brought the Latin and Brazilian sound to discerning listeners across Europe, establishing a core interest which has since gone from strength to strength.”

It was in 1996 that (hailing from Brazil but are based in London) Arakatuba released an album and not just any old album. On this LP each track is about a Brazilian football player.

Side note: I remembered that a year ago now I did a Brazil theme and for one week everything was about Pelé. In that Pelé week I actually posted an instrumental track done by Arakatuba about him.

Little did I know until yesterday that the Pele track was only the tip of the iceberg…

The album Brazil Explosion has more instrumentals by Arakatuba, plus remixes from the likes of Kenny Dope, Box Saga, Soul Generation and Faze Action. As well as the aforementioned Fila Brazillia and Ballistic Brothers.

The names of the tracks on the album are: “Felix, Junior, Carlos Alberta, Josimar, Eder, Pele, Dunga, Riva, Jarzinho, Zico” – and 11 short snippets entitled: “Rivelinho, Rivelinho 1, Rivelinho 2, Rivelinho 3…etc, etc…”   which are all useful for a DJ with sampling.

PHILBY: “I wasn’t done there at Boothferry Park…” [[EDITORS NOTE: YES I KNOW THEY DON'T PLAY THERE ANY MORE, ARTISTIC LICENCE]]

PHILBY: “A cupple of me lads had a bit of bother the other day, right in front of the WI when they were supping their tea, but I said sorry for them. Then today tha boss comes straight up to me with a pair of scissors and cuts me cable. Look at it….Buggers…”

DAVEY: “That was only a Fisher Price radio you know. It didn’t really work.”

PHILBY: “Yeah but they din’t know that diddey ?..Heh, heh…Any hows never mind me – What ‘appened to you ?”

DAVEY (with a tear in his eye): “I was having a kickaround with me mates in Meelan…you know…behind Meelans…” CUT AWAY SHOT OF A SUPERMARKET THAT LOOKS LIKE ALDI BUT HAS A MEELAN SIGN ON IT..”on the rec there and then all of a sudden me leg starts hurting and I can’t go no more.”

PHILBY: “Ah that a bad one for you kidder, I know you were looking forward to playing in that Over 35-doing anything he can to keep playing even though he’s slowed down and only has that one trick up his sleeve tourney in South Adlington.”

PHILBY: “You still got your job modelling underwear for the Kays catalogue ? You could still do that. They could put a towel over that plaster, nobody would notice.”

DAVEY: “Yeah and I’ve still got me mates over in’t States…sorry Staines… who will givvus. I’m half knackered but they don’t know eh. – But whattabou you ?”

PHILBY: “Ah I’ve still got me van…and then there’s the Kareoke…I’ll be okay…”

MEANWHILE IN THE BACKGROUND CURLY AND LLOYD ENTER THE BAR AND HEAD STRAIGHT OVER TO A BOOTH. BETTY COMES OVER WITHIN HALF A SECOND OF THEM SITTING DOWN AND PUTS A COUPLE OF PINTS IN FRONT OF THEM AND A HOTPOT. CURLY AND LLOYD CONTINUE TO ARGUE ABOUT WHO'S SIDE IS GOING TO BOTTLE THE CHANCE FOR FORTH.

The origin of the song goes way back and to the Bahamas.   From Wikipedia >

The perma-tanned Phil Brown celebrated this victory (of sorts) by serenading the Hull City faithful.

I for one hope that he is still in charge come August. We don’t have José in the Prem anymore and we need these… how should I say… colourful characters to entertain us.

I do think though that unless Hull have a massive rethink and maybe player overhaul, they will be guaranteed that bottom place next year.

- As for the music I found the following after I posted their Status Quo Tribute band collaboration, but thanks to every other bottom 5 team also losing I’ve been given this new opportunity.

This band first recorded a song about Hull when they were on their bounce back up the leagues after nearly going out of existence.

In 1984 – only two years after being at the basement in Division 4 and put into receivership. Hull City AFC were promoted in succession to the (old) 2nd Division.   [Full yo yo-ing history here].

After this bit of success the duo of Amber & Black celebrated with a song:

In days gone by the South Americans were seen an an elite and expensive type that you’d find playing for a continental club, but these days because everybody is paying silly money for even the most mediocre performers…

… in the Premier League it is ‘der rigeur’ to have at least one Brazilian in your team.

Not everybody can go to The Apple Store though. Some of the sides are looking in the Argos catalogue or at Comet and the like.

And for Hull City – they’ll be at Cash Converters.

They thought at first that they’d found themselves a bargain when they go Geovanni on a free from Man City, but after 30 appearances this season he’s only bagged 8 and Hull have realised too late (sorry, no returns) that they’ve bought a lemon.

It is uncertain if it’s something up with the man himself, whether he has gone on strikers…err…strike. Or whether it is up to the tactics of the (increasingly loopy) Phil Brown.

But what is certain is that whilst other clubs are enjoying their Ferrero Rocher…Hull City know that they’ll never be able to afford that and will have to get used to having a Nestlé KitKat.

Personally I can’t understand why Phil Brown doesn’t just go back into the pantry and choose to use the bloke who got them into the Prem to keep them in the Prem. When it comes to big games like these and big performances are needed, why does he leave him on the shelf ?

I haven’t really looked to see what the current situation is with Dean Windass… Hang on I’ll google it… No it seems that “Loopy !” Brown has banished him from the club. Very stupid and very sad to read that.

To the music and with it being Hull you can assume that the celebrity musical act will be in the same…

But no ! Wait ! It isn’t !

I know it looks like the “local” Man U supporting musical act, but it’s not them.

It is in fact a Quo tribute band who call themselves StraightAs Quo and I have to say that they’ve got the look down pat. Take a quick glance and you could swear it was them.

And for their music I also have to say that they are pretty damn near to the real thing too.

Yes it is as low rent as the club…

If this relegation issue was to be decided by these songs then Hull would be doomed.

I hope that Hull will retain him and we’ll see some contribution from him in the Premier League Next season.

F&M obviously posts mostly English language footie/musical songs and occasionally I do some non-English stuff [eg: Brolin, Ronaldinho] but because of the language barrier I have trouble researching and finding more songs, more information for other overseas musical footballing outputs.

But now we now have more discoveries.

I found the post on his Bloggin’ In The Wind site that concerns the footie&music and holy crap look at that !

Carrascus has posted on one page what would be a 6 month output for me !

He’s got some legendary players on there who I never knew took to the mic either during or post their footballing careers.

Names such as Johan Cruyff, Arnold Muhren, Beckenbauer and is that… Maradonna..? And there… is it really Pele… singing…?
Oh wait there’s more – the bloke who plays for Blackburn, there also Jay Jay Okocha and yes even Drogba.

The google translation of the page gives me a good idea of what he’s posted and helps me research further onto each of them.

- Next up is Jay Jay Okocha previously of Bolton Wanderers and now playing up front for Hull, who have a decent chance of getting into the Prem for next season. Whether the 34 year-old veteran will be still with them then remains to be seen.
