Well that seems to be it for his blog. No updates since August 16th which means no new material for me to rip the piss out of. So now I have to trawl the web. See what you’ve resorted me to Derek ?! Come on chap, get one of your lackies to ghost write something new for us.
In the meantime some non-footie newsstuff I’ve found about Derek and Skeletor:
Via Metro.co.uk: Beckhams up for comedy award
It is an award they might not want to actually win - David and Victoria Beckham have been nominated for the title of Funniest Double Act.
The pair are up for the gong thanks to their bid to conquer the US…
Loaded editor Martin Daubney said: “Perhaps it’s Victoria’s growing comedy chest or her attempts to integrate into American culture by pitching at baseball matches that have had the British public laughing.
“It’s been a vintage year for comedy and the nominations in this year’s Laftas are a testament to that.
“The Laftas are voted for by the Great British public which makes them the only comedy awards worth their salt. What we have here are the funniest fellas and fillies in the land - and a few surprises, too.
Another one:
Via Digital Spy: Beckhams top ‘Overrated 100′ poll
The Beckhams have topped a magazine list of the most overrated celebrities.
The former England football captain and Spice Girl, who moved to LA earlier this year, were number one in Radar magazine’s list of the ‘Most Over-Hyped People on the Planet’.
Everybody is ripping it out of them, probably glad they moved to LA now than going back to Blighty. But that’s the way with us innit. Build them up and then knock ‘em down.
Another potshot taken at them is a spoof documentary series called Star Stories. This spookily accurate portrayal of their story so far was first shown on Channel 4 this time (September) last year.

News of the weird via Digital Spy: Doherty to manage celeb football team? - “TV producers have reportedly approached Pete Doherty to manage his own celebrity football team for a new show. Doherty, who is a QPR fan, has been asked to head up a team called ‘Doherty FC’ that will then compete against other celebrity teams.” Road crash television in the making. I’ll be watching.
A sequel to the Tartan Specials and their new lyrics over familiar tunes method:
With only a few hours to go before another crucial England qualifier… and this really is the crucial match against a tougher opposition. As with Saturday it is a win they need, no losses and no draws. A win.
To cheer them on a selected single from one of the hundreds released in 2006 for the World Cup. This one unfortunately got lost in the crowd and received little attention. The group are called The Laddz and their effort goes by the title: “Chant Like An English Fan” (and no that doesn’t mean drunkenly with quite a few swearwords, save that for chucking out time)
You can find the lyrics to the song on their MySpace page.

At Leicester City it seems that a 4-1 gubbing of Watford is enough to get you sacked and at the moment their impatient trigger finger Chairman/Owner Mandaric is looking for new blood, with cheer up Peter Reid being one of those in the frame.
One of their famous fans asked another famous fan and ex-player, if he would manage Leicester (this was before Martin Allen got his cards). From the Beeb via the Daily Star:
Kasabian frontman Tom Meighan upset Match of the Day host Gary Lineker by drunkenly asking him to manage Leicester City.
But why was “Leicester’s Favourite Son” upset by this ? I thought it would be a compliment. Or was it because the remark was made after Meighan had a few sherbets ?
As you can see Kasabian are another bunch of musicians who are mad about the game and a few of their songs have featured on footie-related items. Via Wikipedia:
The song Club Foot appears in the video games Pro Evolution Soccer 5
The song Club Foot appears in the movie Goal! during the match between Chelsea and Newcastle United.
The song L.S.F appears in the video game Fifa Football 2004
They performed a cover version of the David Bowie classic “Heroes” for ITV’s 2006 FIFA World Cup coverage*
*Not the only cover they’ve done. Also did Status Quo’s - Pictures Of Matchstick Men
Additionally Wikipedia notes that ‘Fans of the band include William Shatner and Arnold Schwarzenegger’. The Shat and the Governator… nice.
Today’s audio is a hatrick of recordings from Kasabian, including the ITV 2006 World Cup cover:

Uh oh some danger here… McSven is thinking of changing things and starting with the beanCrouch on Wednesday. McLaren states the bleedin’ obvious: “Crouch is a big player, he scores goals and it’s great to have that option.” A big lad up front who knocks them in.. would have never thought of that…
