We here at F&M like to bring you some new music as well as posting the classics.
Previously mentions include The Enemy (Coventry) and Koopa (Colchester).

Usually I try to post songs from these new bands that have a connection to a footie team, but in cases like Hard-Fi and The Enemy I’m sometimes loose with the rules.

The same goes with these next ones which have footie references but are not really linked to football and a particular club in any way, but I wanted people to hear them.

Both these bands are hyped to be the next big thing by the NME amongst others (which sometimes can be a curse).

Glasvegas: Are from Glasgow and did this one called jumpers for goalpos… err I mean Flowers and Football Tops.

Vampire Weekend: Are an American band from New York City. They did this one called Walcott.

I also found a band called Rooney but unlike the special needs kid their stuff misses the post.

With many thanks to Matt for emailing me with this next one:
I’ve upgraded the contact form and now you can attach an mp3 to send with the message.

It’s from a Bolton based artist known as Johnny Boy. I did a quick search and found this MySpace page which I think is one and the same. It certainly sounds like it (listening to the song that Matt sent me) and he sounds good. If you like the Northern Soul then go and have a look.

The track that Johnny Boy did was for Bolton Wanderers and featured some commentary from a local legend, who is sadly no longer with us.

Dave Higson

I’ll let Matt himself tell the story »

“This song was recorded just after Bolton beat Man Utd at Old Trafford in 2001, not sure the reasons for the recording of this track, pretty sure it was never played at the Reebok and only a couple of cd’s released, luckily I’m a close friend of the artist and managed to get hold of one of the cd’s.

It’s extra special as it features Dave Higson who’s since passed away but is a Bolton Legend with his Video Camera Commentary of Bolton Wanderers Games. He was also a favourite on Skinner and Baddiel’s Fantasy Football TV Show (click the link to see him in action)”

I love YouTube. If it wasn’t for that site things that this would be lost in time and space. Like..
Hey where have I heard that before ?

More articles about Dave can be found via the This is Bolton site and at The Bolton News.

Time now to listen to Man Utd v Bolton with music and lyrics by Johnny Boy featuring commentary by Dave Higson:

Taking a break from the football to bring you some music associated with that sports entertainment spectacular known as the Superbowl “World Championship” Final.

Sadly like the FA Cup finalists in the last few years the teams competing in the Superbowl haven’t ventured into the studio, so we have to go back in time with the most famous and memorable Superbowl final song from the 1989 Chicago Bears team.

You remember the Bears. For some reason the coverage about them got to Blighty, but especially about William “The Fridge” Perry. Don’t know why, I think it was because the bloke was huge.

But wait there’s more ! - The Chicago Bears were not the only Superbowl finalist who recorded a single.
Holy Taco.com have 6 rap videos including the Miami Dolphins and the San Francisco 49ers here.

The Miami one is especially to be seen.

- To rescue us from this particular American Footballing hell, I stumbled across this next half-decent track from Iggy Pop:

Iggy the idiot

» Iggy Pop - (American) Football

Sample lyrics: “Life’s a football game/ As every chump and champ knows/ We don’t touch, we collide /Till we’re worn out inside / We’re kicking each other/ Right where it hurts/ Setting up the big play/And trying to score.
